Collaboration With Upcycled Skate Art

In other exciting news I have a collaboration in the works with Alex Wong of Upcycled Skate Art. Alex is a fellow artist from Santa Cruz who uses thrashed skateboard decks and trucks to create a wide variety of unique pieces; anything from jewelry to surfboards and tables. 

In our collaboration, we are using old skateboard truck parts to cast an aluminum skull and integrating truck hangers as a metaphorical spinal column.

Keep posted for a possible show in the future featuring this piece and other related pieces by Alex and I.

Capitola Art and Wine Festival, Open Studios, and New Product Updates

If you did miss it, I have good news! I am going to be at the Capitola Art and Wine Festival this weekend on September 11 and 12 from 10am - 5pm! Whatknot Studios is booth number 89 and I will be located near the Lumen Gallery on Capitola Avenue.

Scotts Valley Art, Beer and Wine Festival and PVAC 'Reflections' Show

Another month and another list of shows on the horizon!

I am so excited to invite you to the Scotts Valley Art, Beer and Wine Festival on August 20th and 21st. It's my first two day event with my new booth setup. I will have a 10' x 10' space to house my sculptures and jewelry.

Art Update
It's been so fun working more in the foundry this month. I am trying to finish up these two pieces to show off at the Scotts Valley Beer, Art and Wine event. This is the second edition of 'Scylla' and the first 'Corset Bouquet'. Below are some progress shots I took this week in the shop.

MBMAG presents 'Reflections' 
 'Reflections' will showcase some incredible artists at the Pajaro Valley Arts Center this month. I will have 3 more elaborate pieces in their gallery and 5 pieces under $200 in their gift shop. All 8 will be for sale. 
These are two of the pieces that will be featured in the exhibit. On the left is my miniature 'Scylla' in sterling silver and bronze and on the right is a wave hair fork that will be in the gift shop.

I hope you can join me on August 29th from 2 - 4pm for the opening reception.

On a more personal note, I cut my hair off a few weeks back! I have 11" to donate and am happy to say this time I've donated it to Children with Hair Loss. This is my 4th time donating hair and I plan on doing it until I go fully grey!

Felton Makers Market, new equipment and PVAC 'Reflections' Show

Shop Update
Thanks to my Patreon supporters, I was able to make a few shop upgrades this month! 

I purchased a brand new big beautiful kiln, a vacuum casting machine that I have been pining after for the last few years as well as an electric melting furnace which comes in a few days! These are all pretty big purchases that will help me create my pieces more efficiently and with better results and I couldn't possibly have bought without your help and support so, thank you!

Roadhouse Makers Market update, Santa Cruz Open Studios, and new products!

Thank you so much to those of you who came by the Roadhouse Makers Market last month. It was such an impressive turnout for what a blustery day it was on the coast.

I'm happy to tell you that I'll be doing another Makers Market in Felton on Sunday, July 11th, 2021. There will be more information on that in next month's Newsletter. 
I am also excited to announce that I just got accepted into Santa Cruz Open Studios, which will be happening this October! I can't wait to see you all in person and share my new pieces with you.

I created these roses as a study of a larger piece but I've already received 2 custom orders for them so I thought I'd put them on the website. Exciting news!

I am going to be participating in a Santa Cruz Mountains Makers Market at the Davenport Roadhouse (1 Davenport Ave) on Saturday, May 8th, from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Please come by and see what I've been working on all year. I will be selling jewelry, bronzes, prints, and postcards! This is a great opportunity to get a gift before Mother's Day.

I am vaccinated and so excited to start getting back out into the world with my artwork.

I am so grateful to my Patreon supporters that have helped to support me throughout the pandemic. It's so much fun having a community of people who really care about the processes and are able to participate in my creative process.

As the 450 Artists show at Radius Gallery comes to a close, I am working on what's next and taking inventory. Although I sold her late last year, "Scylla" is still one of my favorite pieces I've made thus far and also a limited edition artwork. If you're interested in this piece, I am happy to work with you on payment plans or even a custom patina.

Clearing Inventory Sale

I am cleaning house! There are several jewelry pieces in my inventory that didn't make the cut and need to make their way to a new home. These are all one-of-a-kind pieces so once they're gone, there will never be another like it. Check them out on the Whatknot Studios Store.

Commissions 
These two custom pieces are collaborations between clients and myself.

The one on the left is a sterling silver bracelet with red epoxy lettering that spells out NICRGFINF which stands for "Nights I Can't Remember, Good Friends I'll Never Forget".

On the right is a piece that is similar to a set I recently made except the interior wires are 14k gold and I added some pearls to it. I love the finished product and am so happy to work with gold again.

Hello Friends!

So, I am excited to announce that I will be doing my first ever virtual First Friday event and boy oh boy do I have quite a bit planned out! This event will take place from 1-3 pm, Friday May 1, 2020 @firstfridaysantacruz on Instagram. I will have a few new special projects I am rolling out that you will get an exclusive sneak peak of, discounts on certain items on Whatknot Studios jewelry, new paintings to show and more! These offers will only be available to those who tune in so please show up to support your favorite local artist.
